Location

Serra da Estrela Natural Park - Altitude: 690 m

Gouveia is situated in one of the entryways to the Serra da Estrela Central Plateau. It is located within the Dão Demarcated Wine Region.

Upon request, we can organise wine tasting trips, visits to cheese producers (who manufacture the internationally famous "queijo da Serra da Estrela") or to "Serra da Estrela dog" breeders.

In Gouveia, you can visit the Abel Manta Museum of Painting (Condes de Vinhó Mansion), the building which houses the City Hall (the old Jesuit College (1734)), the Churches of Misericórdia (1720), of St Julian (1739) and of St Peter (1758). The Casa da Torre (old synagogue, 15th century) and the old castle neighbourhood deserve an attentive look.

In the centre of everything!
Sabugueiro: 11 miles
Penhas Douradas: 14 miles
Linhares: 16 miles
Torre (ski tracks): 22 miles
Viseu: 28 miles
Guarda: 30 miles
Trancoso: 34 miles

You can go for walks in the less explored areas of Serra da Estrela, with the support of maps made by the Natural Park, where the available itineraries are shown, most of which can be made by 4x4.

In this region, you can practise hunting, fishing, skiing, hang gliding, paragliding, canoeing, horse riding, mountaineering and golf.

Even though the mountain area is most popular during the coldest months, nature lovers will find their visits more rewarding during spring and summer.
